Marguerite Humeau – “I’m trying to create new mythologies for our contemporary era”

Artist Marguerite Humeau creates speculative worlds that explore what might exist beyond the limits of human experience. Drawing on sculpture, mythology and different forms of knowledge, Humeau reflects on an enduring fascination with transcendence and the connections between humans, landscapes and other forms of life. Working with foragers, clairvoyants and geomancers, and creating landscapes such as a forest installation in Norway, she asks how new mythologies might help us imagine our place within a much wider web of life. 0:00 Resuscitating lost and imagined worlds 0:42 An experience that changed everything 1:21 Sculpture, transience and creating life 2:54 Exploring different forms of knowledge 3:19 Creating a landscape in Norway 3:49 New mythologies for a contemporary era 4:32 The greater web of life The Turner Prize 2026 exhibition is on at MIMA 26 September 2026 – 28 March 2027.
