'When Europe collapsed into the carnage of the First World War, artists and writers fled to neutral Switzerland seeking safety – and found absurdity instead. In a tiny nightclub in Zurich, they began mocking the very civilisation that had brought the world to ruin. Out of that laughter, rage and an anarchic challenge to norms came one of the most influential art movements of the 20th century: Dada.'
